Bloody Tragedy in Brazil
In Brazil, in the city of Chapeco in Santa Catarina state, bodybuilder Walter de Vargas Aita was killed in his sleep. His wife is suspected of his murder, believing he cheated on her.
The investigation, which began on September 7, revealed horrific details of the incident.
Police stated that Walter’s wife, Andreia Carvalho Aita, attacked him, inflicting stab wounds to his neck, head, arms, legs, and torso.
At 41 years old and a five time state bodybuilding champion, Walter attempted to flee but fell in the stairwell, leaving a trail of blood behind him.
“She believed her partner had been having affairs for several months and had repeatedly expressed a desire to kill him over it,” police reported.
Investigators found that Carvalho Aita had displayed obsession: she drilled holes in the walls of their apartment to spy on her husband, photographed him while he was sleeping, and sent threatening messages with knife emojis.
Police discovered audio recordings where the woman warned Walter that he would “pay” for his imagined betrayal.
In one recording, Walter stated that he could not live under the threat of a knife.
Andreia admitted to stabbing Walter three times but claims she acted in self-defense, stating that the knife was initially in his hand. She also mentioned conflicts based on religious rituals and suspicions of infidelity.
Forensic experts confirmed that Walter tried to escape, and witnesses heard his cries for help before his death.
The couple married in 2021 and were considered quiet neighbors at that time. However, police uncovered that Carvalho Aita was already wanted in the state of Rio Grande do Sul for attempted robbery with violence, which could have led to a 15-year prison sentence.
Walter was a well-known athlete, representing Brazil in international competitions and ranking second in the World Fitness Federation. He also worked as a personal trainer and had thousands of followers online.
Civil police charged Carvalho Aita with homicide with aggravating circumstances. She remains in custody while prosecutors work on the case.
